I dig it~

It's a fine piece on its own, but with the added mental visual of a fleet of ships on stormy seas, it's really something special!

samulis responds:

I'm glad to hear you think it fits its theme. :)

Perfect.

Coma may indeed be one of the greatest things on Newgrounds, and this lovely theme is part of what gave that game its ethereal charm. There's a lot of great harmonizing just with the acoustic guitar alone, but adding in the choir really gave the song its life.

Beautiful work.

Good piece!

I like this one; it definitely has an autumnal aura to it. The notes meandered a tad early on, but by 1:50 you had built it up into something very nice and atmospheric.

riemannSum responds:

Thanks a lot! I see the meandering myself, but nothing I can do about it now :( I only have the file in an mp3 form unfortunately...

Sinister...

I like how you used such an innocent sounding instrument (musicbox) to create a melody with such a sinister undercurrent.

Another piece of yours I'll look forward to.

Back-From-Purgatory responds:

Music boxes can be both the most innocent and the most sinister sounding instruments on the planet depending on how they're used... And I love the schizophrenic nature of them.

Glad you enjoyed it!

Surprising, atmospheric metal!

Wow, this was quite a surprise; I wasn't expecting such an atmospheric piece of metal, with a dark atmosphere and moody, yet energetic riffs. I'm usually not a huge fan of orchestra in metal (because lord knows it's overused in certain subgenres), but I felt it worked very well here; it didn't feel obtrusive, but rather aided in the atmosphere that had previously been established.

Overall, this is shaping up to be a good piece of music! Looking forward to the final.

Back-From-Purgatory responds:

I'm very much a minimalist with my music. I prefer the "simple but effective" approach over "Technical prowess to impress"... Some would say that's because I lack the skills to do much that'd really impress people technically... and they're probably right, I'm by no means an amazing guitarist. But either way, even if I could, I still prefer my current methods. Something doesn't have to be drowning in speedy solos and technical change ups to be fun to listen to.

Thanks for the review, glad you enjoyed it! And I'll try not keep you guys waiting too long for the next version... god knows it took me long enough to put up version 3.

Nicely done!

Sounds to be pretty heavily inspired by the Gothenburg death metal scene...if not, then disregard what I just said.

Nothing too dynamic going on with the melody, but it keeps the song's energy going nice and steady. I personally like the shift near the end where the riff gets a bit darker; though the song ended soonafterwards, it was a nice shift. If you're going to revisit this in the future, I'd definitely suggest developing that end melody a bit more!

Overall, nicely done!

seel responds:

It's a cover of an Opeth song so you were pretty close, their early material was most likely influenced by the Swedish DM scene. The whole song is like 14 minutes, don't think I'll ever have the patience to make a full cover... But you never know.

Gorgeous, emotional piece of music.

Your skills as a composer really are quite astounding. The fact that you're a talented vocalist helps gives your pieces even more life, making them beautiful, fully realized songs.

This one is no exception; it's got a strong sense of yearning buried in the melody, which flows smoothly throughout, building and receding exactly when it needs to. And as I said before, your strong vocal delivery really brings this one to life. A truly excellent piece of music!

Well done piano piece!

This is a great piece that evokes emotion in a wonderfully subtle way. A tad on the short side, as others have said (perhaps a build-up would've been nice), but it did its job well in its allotted time. Very nice!

midimachine responds:

Thaaaanks :)

I wish I knew where this sudden influx of reviews/favouritings is coming from, though.

EDIT: never mind i looked at the frontpage for the first time in like a year. groovy!

Lovely!

I really like the emotion behind this; like all great solo piano pieces, it really evokes a feeling of longing. And that's saying a lot, considering it's an improvised piece! Very well done.

Sublime.

A wonderfully hypnotizing piece of music. A great, sultry singing voice and a calm, jazzy background makes me feel as though I'm lounging back in a smoky jazz club from decades ago. Great atmosphere, great song.

A voice actor dude! Check out my 2015 demo, and send me a line if you think I can be of use to you! Icon drawn by Jaxxy.
